Golf – Chipping and Putting Tips

By adding more clubs to my available chipping selection, my short shots have as of lately gotten much more accurate. With everybody focusing on putting and chipping, pitching has become an underdiscussed but important section of your game. Short hitters that do not make it to the greens & long players that get wild have to rely on pitching in order to still make pars.
The strongest players at pitching are at their fundamentals strong and have developed a “feel” for being able to control distance. I have worked pretty hard over time in order to improve. Here are my 2 big pitching tips. Take a good shoulder turn backwards & through the swing, so that my large muscles are controlling the motion, & let your arms stay soft.
I can’t put enough stress on the importance of having a motionless head when regarding solid ball-striking ability & accurate iron play. However, you also have to know when you can release your head toward the target.
Average golfers tend to move their head side to side or up & down during the swing. Vertical movement, even if done merely to a small degree, will typically have the result of thin or fat shots as the relative distance to the golf ball increases or decreases. A pulled or pushed iron shot often results from having too much lateral motion, as they are an inability to consistently bring back the clubhead to the place it was at address.
During my swing, I try to keep my head perfectly motionless. It moves downward a little when you come into contact with the ball – just not laterally. So that it doesn’t inhibit my follow through, then I release it towards the target after striking.
I typically would prefer to use my 9-iron over my sand wedge for bunker shots of forty to 50 yards. I’m likely to hit under the ball & be short or strike the golf ball in the middle & skull it beyond the green in order to create that much distance with the higher-lofted club choice. By utilizing the bounce from the bottom of your club in order to hit right through the sand with more room for error, I can reach the target with a 9 iron.
I normally swing the way I would with my sand wedge swing. I will begin by opening up my stance & club towards my target area & moving my hands down on the handle. I move the club backward along the stance line & then follow through using an out-to-in motion. My left arm is firm when impacting – which keeps me from letting my hands go.
As a result of doing this the golf ball comes out relatively low, so you will want to allow for some extra roll.

Mastering The Chip Shot

When your feet are close in proximity, that lets you have the best foot positioning for the grip and shot. Only your upper body should move when attempting the chip shot. The ball can go flying in any direction if you start using your arms and wrists.
Once you take in how to stand in the correct position with the chipping grip, you will naturally connect with the bottom half of the golf bal. This is what you need to achieve.
You are probably having trouble wit your chip shot because of your grip. The chipping grip as it is known is the same grip you use when putting. This better chipping grip allows you to control your movements with your shoulders. There should not be any action from your hands.
An easy way to practice this a more proper chipping grip, is to obtain a wedge and then grip it as though you are grasping your putter. The position of the whole wedge should be a bit more vertical as opposed to holding the putter. But you have to bear in mind, chipping is really the ‘big brother’ of putting – try and utilize the same technique.
Small changes to the grip like this one will make all the difference in your playing. This is one of those golf shots, that the club and not your body does the work. If you watch pro golfers you will see that when they execute the chip shot, they use a very slight action each time.
Your ball does not need your help, so never try to give it a push or nudge. If this does transpire then it simply means that you are using your hands too much and your chip shot will fail. By holding the club with the chipping grip you can perfect the shot by integrating a small rocking action. Your shoulders control the rocking motion that you feel.
The easiest way for this to work is to simply lead with your left hand. Using the correct technique on the chipping grip, and the proper stance as you hit the ball, you will automatically come down in the right position onto the ball. If you manage to keep most of your weight on your front foot this will be made much easier. It is vital for your hands to arrive in front of the club before impact on the ball.

The chipping yips are a golfer’s worst nightmare.
Suffering from chipping yips in golf? Don’t worry about it, you are not alone. Many pro players have suffered the consequences of having the chipping yips.
