Sports fans love to brag about their trivia knowledge. Many of the facts out there are pretty commonplace, almost shameful if you don’t know them. Whether it’s Babe Ruth’s career home run total, Michael Jordan’s jersey number, or anything else like this, they’ve become a part of pop culture.

Interestingly enough, there are plenty of obscure facts out there that happen to be just as impressive, interesting, and entertaining, as any of the more obvious ones. Let’s have a look at some of these examples. It’ll give you some great bait for parties.

Two high schools in North Carolina set the record for the most overtimes in a single game. Playing 13 overtimes, the final score was just 56-54. Makes you wonder how bad they must have been!

People admire many baseball players and what they do at the home run derby every All-Star break, but did you know that Babe Ruth once hit 125 home runs in an hour during batting practice? This is over triple anything ever hit in the home run derby. Can you imagine how much that could drain an athlete? That’s over two per minute!

In the 1971 Indianapolis 500, A.J. Foyt stopped for gas during the 14th lap. Amazingly clocking in at just 9 seconds, this was the fastest gas stop in the history of auto racing – and probably the world.

The longest rally in tennis history occurred between Howard Kinsey and R. Roark. This rally lasted for 78 minutes and spanned 2001 shots. Eventually, the rally ended because Kinsey had to give someone a tennis lesson.

Spring training isn’t called spring training because of the time of year it takes place during. It all has to do with the fact that the 1885 White Sox decided to practice in Hot Springs, Arkansas before the start of the season.

Almost as interesting is the fact that over 41,000 tennis balls are used each summer at the Wimbledon tennis championships. That’s a lot of tennis.

Jack Robinson, a golfer with one arm, amazingly hit two holes in one during a four day period on the same course.

In ancient Japan, there were contests held on a weekly basis to see who could fart the loudest and the longest. How’s that for a weird sport?

The Olympics in ancient Rome were played by completely nude athletes. No one wore anything at all.
