Golf is a Good Form of Exercise

Most people know that you need to exercise to maintain good physical health, nonetheless countless people simply have no wish to exercise. Often you will hear the excuses are that they have no time to exercise or it is too much hassle trying to find something that is interesting, and not boring. Then again, there are also people that are conscious of the ever increasing number of obese or overweight people and they don’t want to become like that, so they know that they should do some form of exercise.
Most people do not like the idea of just doing exercise in order to get fit. So they look for ideas about a sport to start to get into shape, but if you are older or in your prime, you will not be thinking about taking up triathlons or rugby. Golf, though, is a sport that is suitable for those both young and old, and male or female.
Taking up the Sport of Golf to Get Fit
As a sport, golf is fairly easy to get into in the sense that you don’t have to train for months to take part – like a marathon. Once you get started with golf, you will find that it is highly entertaining and fun. This is the important part to actually getting up and doing some exercise, because when you like what you are doing, you will be astonished at how often you look for reasons to play. This is why golf has become a sport that provides those many formerly inactive folk with a good justification to get up and get started with some exercise.
From the Outset
In the beginning it is better to start playing shorter courses, like 9-hole courses, until you can develop your general physical abilities to let you to be able to handle the physical requirements for a full’-holes. As we are talking about golf as a sport, we have to reject using golf carts because this takes away the benefits of golf to get in shape. This makes it necessary to have the physical strength to be able to walk the entire golf course before you attempt to play. It may turn out that for your first few games you can only manage hardly any of the holes. This may seem dispiriting but by continuously playing, you will be able to increase your stamina and strength to allow you to walk and play a full course.
Developing Your Fitness Level
On the whole, golf is quite a good sport for allowing you to slowly break into an exercise schedule. You will no doubt be taking golf lessons when first starting to learn golf which will allow you to start off slowly by working on your swing. You will be developing your flexibility and golf muscles at the same time you work on your golf swing.
Although some individuals say that you can play golf when you are overweight and unfit, this is not true. Yes, you could ride around in a golf cart and just get down to take a rigid swing to move the ball along the fairway a little distance at a time, but this is not what golf is about. If you are at all serious about improving your fitness by playing golf, you will want to in the end play golf skilfully. After you are able to shoot a few pars and birdies, you will look forward to working on your fitness and flexibility so that you can get improve even more.
If you enjoy golfing then you will not mind getting up early to go to the course. If you really want to take your game to a higher level, you will not mind the little bit of effort to do some exercising to work on your golf muscles and a flexibility program to improve your suppleness. Once you are passionate about golf you will discover that as you want to improve your golf swing you will additionally be working on getting into shape for golf and keeping fit.
