So…how do you consistently swing "on plane?". You've no doubt seen articles , videos, and explanations about swinging on plane and if you're like many people you end up with more confusion than good results. You've seen the illustrations with the tilted sheet of glass and the golfers head poked through the hole explaining "the plane". This has to be one of the most confusing illustrations of all time…at least to the average golfer who's trying to improve his game.

Here are some putting tips to develop an eye and feel for precision putting. Most golfers seem to hesitate more the closer they get to the hole. Whereas a golfer who putts with confidence is congruent and goes for what they want. You need a putting routine that supports putting with precision. Most golfers get on the green and hit and hope. They hit in the general direction with little thought or discernment for line, break, speed or distance. This can be costly if you consistently three putt or worse. Tiger Woods talks about golf mastery from the putting green first then working backwards to the tee, that is how he was taught. It makes sense. If you really want to hone your eyes and hands, your feel for precision putting, then you have several variables you must consider. Among them are things like line, break, distance, the condition of the green and the speed or slowness of the surface too. Once you have your line and know the type of putt you intend to play it is time to go through your routine of your address, aligning ball and putter face and your putting stroke. Now it comes down to playing that line with precision. Assessment is done. Feet need to be solid, square then run your eye from the ball to the hole along the line. Intention and focus are key here, where your eye and feel come together with your mind and body working as one in coordination. Precision hand eye coordination. Still in mind and body with crystal clear intention. Picking a line and playing it precisely with total commitment. Let's go through the putting routine putt step by step. First off assess the line from the ball to the hole by getting down on your haunches directly behind the ball. Notice what you see. Is the grass long, short, wet, dry? Notice the pace of the green and slope and angle. How will the ball roll as you hit it? Will it go straight or break in any particular direction. If you strike the ball firmly it must hit the middle of the cup to go in. Is there enough break to try for a roll in from either side of the cup? The grass is well worth looking at. Is the grain going with or against or across your line? A slow green will be created by things like moisture, sand on the green or longer grass. Whereas a fast green tends to be cut, rolled, hard and dry especially on competition days. Notice the weather as well. The time of day, the season, temperature, rain, sunshine, wind or shadow. Everything affects the ball in motion. You want as many angles of sight as possible such as looking at the line from the hole to the ball. Again as low as possible. If you have time get a view from four angles around the ball. Then visualize how the ball will roll. Imagine seeing the line. Finally get back behind the ball. Then simply deice your line. It is always a good idea to take a practice putt as though you are playing your chosen line and see the ball rolling along your line into the hole. Feel your putter, feel the line and see it too. The foundation of playing with precision is to choose a line and play it with precision. There are an infinite number of lines to play. Just pick one. In the end the variables of a line is decided by speed and force used to play that line. Now it is time to address the ball. Put the putter behind the ball aligning it to your line first then place your feet one at a time to be square along with your hands. Glance along the line again and steady your head. You should see the hole in your peripheral sight. Breathe to start your takeaway for a smooth pendulum motion back-swing to down-swing through the ball to the hole. The higher the MOI of a particular putter the more resistance that putters will have to twisting when the ball is hit off center. Shafting – The shaft of the putter gets into the putter head through the heel or the center. Hosel design and shaft shape are of several variations. It is found that straight-in centered shaft putters are much better due to the reduced effect of twisting of the putter face they cause. This is the same principle that is used in the designing a hammer which has a shaft at the center of the head. Cost – This is perhaps the least important factor. Considering the wrong putter is expensive at any price and considering the price of the other clubs in your bag this will most likely be the cheapest of them all. Yet, you will use this club more than those expensive, high-tech drivers. Inserts – When selecting a putterface, you may often doubt what effect does inserting the material cause. The material inserted neither helps nor obstructs with aiming. One must choose it depending on what causes the best sound and feel when in contact with the ball. Alignment Aids – Putting has a number of difficulties, one of which is aiming it in a correct way. There are a number of manufacturers now who mention that their putter has superior aiming aids. With most marketing claims these should reviewed with a little skepticism. They may work for some people and not with others. Just take a moment to view the aides and see if they help you line with your aim. If not don't use them or select a different club.

The two courses are known as the “Palm” and the “Valley” courses. They were designed by acclaimed golf architect Ted Robinson’s and they are beautifully landscaped. There is, however, more than just water and landscape to these two courses.

The course is littered with bunkers, water hazards and strategically placed trees. Created to provide golfers of all ages and abilities an enjoyable round the greens are well maintained without much break so the average golfer can simply putt at the hole.

On the two days that I played, the staff provided our four some with newer high tech drive golf carts with state-of-the-art navigational and computing systems. The cars were equipped with on- board GPS computer systems which provide graphic layouts of each hole and computes exact yardage to the pin.

Before I left I searched on line for some of the top courses and found the Eagle Falls Golf Resort which is part of the Fantasy Spring Casino in Indio. Designed by renown golf architect Clive Clark, the Eagle Falls Golf Resort has carved out of the desert a beautiful golf course that is full of elevations, water features and foliage rarely seen on a golf course that is open to the public.

This18 hole course has three sets of tees with distances ranging from 5,729 to 6,715 depending upon whether you set up at the Falcon, Hawk or Eagle t – boxes. At par 72 the course is a challenge to the high and low handicapper.

One of the most challenging and beautiful holes is the par five 18th which has a working waterfall which gives the course its name.

Behind the 18th green and off in the distance I spied the twelve story tower of Fantasy Springs Casino hotel.

All told the course has three par fives and three par threes. According to the golf shop and some of the promotional literature I read Eagle Falls was named the desert’s best value course two years in a row by Greenskeeper.org and is the site of the annual Playboy Golf scramble as well as the Frank Sinatra Celebrity golf event, benefiting the Barbara Sinatra Children’s charities.

The day that I was out the sun was shining bright, but it was a little windy making the course all the more challenging. My playing partner and I got a special rate because he was staying at the casino hotel, but for those not staying at the casino the regular rate that time of year is about $75 dollars, less if you want to try one of the twilight rates.

The pro shop is not much to look at, but it was fully stocked with the latest gear. There is also a snack bar and attractive girls selling food and drink on the course. There are golf carts with GPS trackers built in so you don’t have to guess how far your ball is to the nearest hazard or green.

When we got done, we went over to the casino to help the Indians with their cause.
